The Bromley Contingent were a group of followers of the Sex Pistols: they were their entourage. The name was coined by Melody Maker journalist Caroline Coon, after the town of Bromley where some of them lived. They helped popularize the fashion of the early UK punk movement.
The actual lettering on these original bus roller signs are screen printed by hand onto dutch linen. Check out this Pathe film about them HERE
These lovely original blinds originated from Edwardian buses which carried sign-written wooden destination boards, a leftover from stagecoaches. Routes lengthened when petrol-engines replaced horses, then more versatile roll-blinds appeared. From the 1930s London Transport made their own by hand, - screen printed on dutch linen.
